Holiday traditions, do you love them? Do you have traditions that are special to your family? Around the holiday’s, we hear of traditions and how each family will celebrate. But there is one tradition that I have loved since I was little, and I am so excited to start this new tradition with my husband and one day our family.
We all are familiar with ornaments, but do you know the actual meaning of an ornament? An ornament is a thing used to make something look more attractive but usually having no practical purpose, especially a small object such as a figurine. And in another form, ornament is used to make (something) look more attractive by adding decorative items. So, lets make 2020 more attractive.
It has been such a challenging year, and I am ready to put a smile on my face and those around me, leaving 2020 more attractive at the end than it was in the beginning.
As long as I can remember, my mom has made a tradition where each year, on Christmas Eve, my sister, brother and I all received an ornament from her. This ornament had a special meaning for each of us regarding that year. It could be an ornament of a car for the year we got our license, a picture ornament on our first Christmas, an ornament of our favorite collection that year (mine was shoes), or an ornament of a person playing a sport that we did well in that year. Each ornament was so special and I am so excited to keep up with this tradition.
Not only did we receive an ornament, but we also got a pair of pajamas that same night that we wore together as we sat on the couch and watched movies together.
One thing to know about me – I am TERRIBLE at keeping gifts. As soon as I get something for someone, I want to give it to them right away. No surprise here, I ordered my husbands ornament and our Christmas pajamas and ALREADY gave it to him (along with one of his Christmas gifts… oops). Even though the tradition has changed a bit this year since I gave him his ornament and pajamas early… it is so special that I am able to find something that describes his year in such a small figurine.
This year he received an ornament that was a ceramic golf bag and had “husband” and “2020” written on the bag. He is in love with the game of golf (obsessed I would say) and will play any and every chance he can get. It was only fitting to find a golf ornament. And I added “husband” and “2020” to the ornament because WE GOT MARRIED this year, such a life changing moment but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I am so excited to share this tradition with my kids one day, to see the excitement on their faces as they open an ornament that is special to them for the year and new Christmas jammies. As that may come far down the road from now, I am going to cherish this time with just my husband and embrace the tradition.
There is just a little glimpse of why the holiday’s seem to be my favorite time of the year with my family.
